Since my focus is on Resistance rather than writing coaching and in particular on the forum, I’ve updated the home page to reflect that.
I’m quite pleased with the plummy pistachio look. It’s obnoxiously obvious.
Are you a member of the forum yet? If not, why is that? Perhaps you don’t need help with Resistance. Before you decide that, take a look at the box on the home page and read the various ways Resistance manifests.
After completely overhauling my fiction website I wanted to give Someday Box a facelift. Be patient with my while I convert to plummy pistachio before your eyes.
Big fan of WordPress. I use it for all my sites and for Spinhead’s clients’ sites as well. As a writer you’ll note the correct use of apostrophes in that sentence. (See below for the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org and trust me, you want to know this.)
Choosing a theme seems to be a massive roadblock to beginners.

After I did all the work to create a new theme for my fiction site I thought I’d tweak it enough to use here as well.
I’ve always loved the image from the cover of the book and I’m just not happy with the logo I’ve been using so we’re taking a step back in time.

No, we’re not in 3rd grade again. I’m just changing the design of this site to slowly morph into something that matches the new logo a little better.

With a little advice near the end from Davina Kinney, this is the new Someday Box logo which you’ll see not only here, but in my email signature (where I haven’t had a logo since I switched my primary email from Joel@Spinhead.com to Joel@SomedayBox.com)

I’ve been a web developer for almost 25 years, so this is not simply from the perspective of an author, though I have published 18 books so far and show no signs of stopping.
An author without a website and blog is like any other business without a website.
The first place people go for information these days is the web. If you’re considering a new mechanic, and this one has a good website and the other has nothing, don’t you lean toward the one you can find out about online?

You should start marketing your book the day you’re sure you’re going to write it. Your website is a major part of your marketing.
Consider how movies are marketed. A year in advance, sometimes more, teasers start to come out. A website goes up with trivia, bits and pieces.
As the date approaches, the teasers turn into trailers, longer more detailed snippets to suck you in and build excitement, buzz.
Just before the launch is when the big blitz happens, but it only matters because real fans have been talking about it since the announcement a year ago.
